congos

well hello dear diary!

last night i went to a really good gig, the congos, a reggae band that formed in 1977. if you haven't heard of them (like i hadn't) look them up. they have worked with lee 'scratch' perry amongst others, you will recognise some of their tunes i bet. these guys are still going strong, pumping out beautiful roots reggae. and just look at them, they aint no spring chickens!

i enjoyed a rare night of no driving as well thanks to a very kind friend, phil who drove to gloucester to pick me up. i'd forgotten how great it is not having to drive, i watched fireworks out of the window going up the M5!

i had never been to the buttermill in shrewsbury before but had heard about the great gigs they put on there. i guess i was expecting a more community centre feel and was surprised it was like a nightclub. the rest of the crowd seemed pretty friendly with a good mix of old/young and black/white. i could get used to coming to this venue although the prices of the drinks seemed a little steep.

the band were great, i haven't been to many proper roots reggae bands live gigs so it was a real treat. the crowd loved it and we had all worn out our dancing shoes by the end of the evening.

we left to find the car trapped in the carpark by a white van. as we stood around shivering wondering what to do the driver appeared, apologetic and moved out of our way.

it was a lovely drive back to gloucester, trying to spot badgers and getting stoned. lit the fire as soon as we were in through the door and had a cuppa before phil and john headed back to walesland and i headed off to bed.

i have had the laziest day ever today, got up just before noon, lit the fire and spent the day on the computer. did my psychology homework, sorted out all my Freecycle stuff, went on all the forums i regularly contribute too and now i am blogging!
