skindred and toadstool

we went out for a proper night of boogieing and socialising on friday night! first we went to the poets bar in gloucester to see my friend play the didge in a band. as it was the drummer hadn't turned up so we didn't see them as we had to get off to the guildhall to watch skindred! we started off our night here though and here we are........!!!

we made our way to the guildhall to watch skindred. the guildhall was rammed as the gig was sold out. some poor people who had bought tickets online had been ripped off as the seller had re-sold everyones tickets, bastard! luckily i had got mine from the guildhall direct so we had no problems. i saw skindred last year at beautiful days festival and knew we would be in for a great show.

my friend dawn had never heard of them and though i was taking her to a reggae gig! there is certainly a reggae/ragga influence in their music but they are more punk rock than reggae! she enjoyed it though and we danced our little socks off!

there was a real mixed crowd at the guildhall which was great and the floor really was bouncing! benji the front man (previously in dubwar) was as always a treat to watch and the band were as tight as ever. we left the guildhall sweaty and happy!

we then made our way to crackers in gloucester for the tribe of toadstool night. psy-trance grooves and friendly faces greeted us as we entered the club. now i'm not the biggest psy-trance fan but i'd go to this night for the brilliant vibes and friendliness of the place. it feels like a private party, everyone knows everyone else, everyone is happy and grinning from ear to ear and it's all about having a good time. we danced for a couple of hours and then i sat down and socialised with a few people for the rest of the night.

more gloucester people NEED to come to this night. i will definatly be coming again and bringing along others to sample the delights of a toadstool party. i mean where else on a night out in gloucester are you going to be offered free fruit and ice-pops?..... exactly! i will see if i can put a couple of corkys pictures up here once she has them on the toadstool site.

thank you corky and the tribe of toadstool, you are all very beautiful people xxx

Skin dread started out life as Dub War with a different name and a new record label. They released several singles and an album in that form and made it quite big in america. However about two years ago the band split due to some members of the band being pissed of with the expolits of the music industry, leaving Benji on his own to carry the Skindread torch.

Benji recruited several young guns to take over and that is the unit that is now touring under the name skindread. this line up has yet to release anything and it will be interesting to see how they stand up to the original line up.

The rest of Dub War/Skindread (ginge, jeff and richie) have since been working with a new vocalist... Bristle's very own Roni Size! The released one single under the name Raw Bud which can be found at http://www.runninriot.co.uk/disco.htm There are no firm plans for this to become a long term project but going on this one single they have the potential to blow the current skin dread out of the water!

When Skindread played TJs last christmas jeff and ginge turned up and joined benji on stage for some of the set... they are set to play tjs again on 21st december... so MAYBE another reunion will be on the cards!(?)
