omnia opera
last night we went to see the british acid/plasma/space rock band (yes i did nick that bit from their website!) omnia opera. their first live gig in 13 years to mark the 20th anniversary of the bands conception. on the way there phil tested our lateral thinking with a couple of brain teasers and we had a bet on whether badgers hibernate or not. thanks to the wonders of modern technology i.e. using the mobile to look it up on tinternet i found i had lost the bet as no, badgers do not hibernate. they do however as sparky guessed lay low and chill out.
they have this kind of a hawkwind/pink floyd/ozrics type of thing going on which is pretty good but not really my vibe. they didn't get me wanting to dance but lots of people were jigging around like crazy! i was more than happy sat down just soaking up the vibe and listening to the music whilst getting more stoned and a little tipsy.
there was quite a few old crusties in the crowd, overheard conversations of old busses rotting in the garden and the 'good old days' on the road were common! there was a good vibe there even though i'm sure some of these people hadn't been out in 10yrs hehehe.

the venue was a youth club which meant there was only a makeshift bar. on offer was dodgy bottles of cider that looked like wine and tasted like shit, although in all fairness clint seemed to love and helped drink the bar dry of them. there was cheap as chips happy shopper style cola which was disgusting. now i don't buy coca-cola ever unless i'm at a gig and thats all they have as something to perk me up a bit and so it's nice to see people not buying from the multinational greedy bastards but hey can we still not have decent cola? there was no still bottled water, no lemonade, a few different cans of ciders and beers, a couple of spirits and wine. so it was onto the wine for me as i didn't have to drive again, (becomming very used to this no driving lark!)
it was also a no smoking venue which i am all for, it is nice being in a room that is not thick with cigarette smoke. would be nice to have an indoor smoking room though instead of freezing to death outside having a spliff. we did the outside thing a couple of times and then the rebel in our group, (no not me for a change!) sparky decided to smoke in the hall. so we had a few spliffs in there and i think amongst all those ex-punks/travellers/anarchists we were the only people breaking the rules hehehe.
had a great night, the music wasn't really for me but hey what makes a great night is the great company and i certainly had that, thanks guys xxx
