Tirley to Brecon - A pipeline roadtrip!

on saturday i visited the protest camp at brecon again. for those of you not regular readers of this blog protesters have made a tree camp in the brecon beacons national park to try and stop the 120 mile long LNG pipeline that is ripping through our beautiful land. not only is it destroying the environment on its way it is locking us into at least another 30 years of reliance on this fossil fuel. for more information visit FIGHT THE PIPE or FIGHTING THE PIPE.

anyway even though it was a slightly longer trip i thought i'd take the route along the pipeline to get to the brecon camp. obviously it is impossible to trace the exact route as it cuts through lots of countryside but as it crosses roads many times it is pretty easy to get a view of how progress is going.

the field between corse and tirley that is earmarked to be the site for the pressure reduction installation. local opposition to this is very strong. unfortunately locals do not see the bigger picture and have a bit of a 'not in our backyard' mentality.

notice of the next public inquiry at corse village hall on 24 april at 10am.

hedgerows along the entire route from the PRI site to brecon have been cleared now.

work is about to start in kempley where the section of pipeline running from peterstow, near ross-on-wye is getting ever nearer.

pipes laid out ready to be welded together and laid in peterstow. here the trench has been dug ready and there is a lot of machinery and contractors around the area as well as security.

in peterstow where work is moving along without, it seems, any disruption.

signs along the route do not tell the real story and why is it only put as brecon to tirley when we all know it's felindre to tirley? maybe it's something to do with a big obstacle in the way namely a tree camp full of protesters!

a huge number of public rights of way are closed for the whole summer due to the pipeline work. you can check out a list of those in gloucestershire HERE check other local authorities websites for others.

in hay-on-wye the story is the same as peterstow, pipelines laid out ready and sites where all the machinery is as well as more security.

at last we get to unspoilt brecon where although within a mile each side of the camp trees have been felled and hedgerows cleared there is still here a little oasis of beauty left along the route of the pipeline.

more people urgently needed to take part in direct actions along the route of the pipeline as well as in brecon at the tree camp. the more disruption caused the better :-)

please contact the FIGHT THE PIPE website or FIGHTING THE PIPE myspace or me for advice on direct actions. more pictures from this trip on the myspace site too!

thanks for reading, love our earth! xoxox
